DAY 1: Hotel Kilkenny
Today we will travel to the medieval city of Kilkenny, and to our fabulous accommodation the 4-star Hotel Kilkenny where we will be enjoying their hospitality for the duration of our fantastic tour. Tonight’s entertainment is the wonderful Chrissy Mac
DAY 2: Kilkenny Castle, National Design & Craft Gallery
After a delicious breakfast, we will enter the city to tour the incredible Kilkenny Castle. This formidable castle stands over the River Nore originally built in 1195 to control a fording point. It is packed with spectacular rooms containing Tapestries, a library, restored bedrooms and the breathtaking East Wing Picture Gallery. Night two you will be entrained by the Trio Royale, X-factors Mary Byrne, Kayleigh Cullinan from the Voice & Liam Murphy winner of Elvis Idol.
DAY 3: Smithwicks Experience, Jerpoint Abbey & Christmas Hooley
Beginning our day we will visit the Smithwicks Experience for an interactive guided tour of the 18th-century brewery including tastings. This wonderful brewery is located in the heart of Kilkenny city and is the home of Ireland’s oldest ale. Once finished in the brewery you will be given time to get yourself some food from some of the brilliant bars, cafes and restaurants Kilkenny has to offer before setting off to the 12th-century Jerpoint Abbey. One of the best examples of a medieval Cistercian Abbey in Ireland, Jerpoint Abbey reflects the transition from Romanesque to Gothic architecture with stunning architecture throughout. The day will be topped off with The Queen of Country Philomena Begley being joined by the fantastic Louise Morrissey and the incredible John Mc Nicholl for our festive Christmas Hooley in the ballroom Hotel Kilkenny.
DAY 4: The Kilkenny Famine Experience & Head Home
The last day of our great Kilkenny trip will be capped with a tour of The Kilkenny Famine Experience. Kilkenny’s Union Workhouse, adjacent to Kilkenny Train Station, is now beautifully restored as MacDonagh Junction Shopping Centre. You will be able see and hear the heartbreaking stories of those who lived through the famine from the perspective of the Workhouse inmates and staff. Once finished we will begin our journey back to the original pick up points.
